Zona Rosa's Christmas Tree Lighting, 2009
There's a nice little shopping area near us called Zona Rosa One of their 'things' is bringing back Kansas City traditions that have fallen away. We like to go to their big Christmas tree lighting ceremony and this year was no exception.
One tradition they brought back early on is the 'Fairy Princess'. Your child can go see her and tell her what they want during the time between the tree lighting and when Santa arrives in early December. This year they added in their version of the Kansas City Museum's Igloo. Sorry, we didn't get by so no shots for now.
Local entertainer "Mr. Stinky Feet" was on before the ceremony and Fox4 weatherman Joe Lauria took part, doing his weather breaks from the event - including one with Mr. & Mrs Claus joining in and then with the actual lighting carried live.
One of the decorative elements Zona Rosa uses for the holidays is a set of lighted crowns. The first three they put up were re-creations of the ones that used to be in downtown KC in the 1950's. As they've expanded the area they've added some newer ones of similar design.Clicking on the thumbnails will take you to a frame by frame gallery
