99.7 KY brought "Mow Down Show Down #2" to Lakside Speedway on Friday, May 9th, 2003. The folks from the USLMRA were there to help out in the form the the Commisioner and the 2002 FX Champ. All of this was in addition to the usual Lakeside fun
Things got off to a good start, then slowed down a bit with a scary crash in the Stock Lawn Mower race and problems with the track's lights making things a bit hard to see, as well as some controversy over just how modified the winning Modified Lawn Mower might be, but overall a great time was had by all. See you at Mow Down Show Down 3 in September!
A side note, as it got dark Lakeside Speedway found out they had been touched by the storms that ravaged the area - the main lights were out due to a blown transformer. BPU got them back up for the feature races but the lawn mowers had to race by the headlights of the packing trucks (thanks guys!). As a result, my great spot on the grandstand roof, where I could take 'blimp shots' of the action turned out to be like being a blimp at a domed stadium. I have a rather powerful flash but the range was rather extreme even for it. By waiting (usually) for it to recharge after each full-power blast and doing some things that resulted in mighty thin negatives I was able to get some good shots. Thanks to the crew at the One-Hour Photo at the SAMs Club on North Oak - the reason I have them do most of my routine work is that they do such a good job.
