99.7 KY celebrated their 29th birthday on July 19th, 2003 with a big Boston Blowout. Morning show member T.J. Price's band Monkeyfinger did a pre-show on the second stage, then it was all Boston, all night!
KY and Boston both being who they are, a group of KY listeners got to sit in on the sound check. Unlike some bands that have roadies and techs do most or all of the work, the members of Boston were right out there in the sweltering summer sun making sure everything was just right.
As an example of how fan-friendly Boston is, Brad Delp came out and did his interview with the KY folks before the sound check. Just before the sound check he climbed down off the stage and came out to sign autographs and shake hands. He was able to get to about half of the people before he had to go back up on stage for the sound check. An hour later, when they finished, rather than make a run for the air conditioning he came back out to make sure the rest of the folks had a chance to get things signed and say 'Hi'.
It was a great night and a lot of fun was had by all, at least as far as I saw. I apparently was dressed even better than usual since the first thing just about everyone said to me was something about how hot I looked.
