Pictures considered for the 2010 Calendar
Every year I do a calendar with pictures from the past year. Traditionally I've done the whole thing myself but this year we're going with a slightly more professional but also less personal one.
But as usual the process is the same: we go back through all of the pictures from the past year looking for the ones that might make this year's calendar.
The rules are pretty simple: it has to be in landscape (horizontal) orientation and it has to be eye catching.
We go through all of the pictures and put the possibles in a big pile. That used to be literal - when I shot film we'd go through the books of prints and pull out the ones we thought might be good enough. Now that I'm shooting digital we go through the directories of images and copy the possibles into a special folder.
For making the 2010 calendar we pulled these 100 images from our past year.
Part of the fun of doing the calendar is looking through and seeing what we've done. This year we Drove to Pheonix for the NRA Annual Meeting, went to Branson for the 4th of July, watched the Dragon boats on the Plaza in Kansas City, tried out a new camera and much more.
After we get the 'possibles' pile its a matter of going through and dropping pictures from the set until we get to the handful we need. As you might guess it gets harder and harder as we go. This year - as usual - we could have done several calendars.
Once the images are picked out it's 'just' a matter of getting all the copies printed and assembling the calendars.Clicking on the thumbnails will take you to a frame by frame gallery
