Trying out my new Sony Alpha 900
Way back in 1996 the ever-indulgent wife bought me my first serious camera - a Minolta Maxxum 400. I went with Minolta because it had the best ergonomics for me - you should always do a test fondle before buying a serious camera.
The 400 served me well and a few years later she bought me the top of the line film camera, the Maxxum 9. Time passed and we moved to the (now Konica-Minolta) 7D.
Time has kept passing and now here in early November 2009 she got me the (now Sony) top of the line Alpha 900. Full-frame, 24 megapixels, truly an outstanding camera. We took it out to Kauffman Garden in Kansas City to try it out. One of the reasons to go with this camera is all of my lenses work with it. I need to get a new flash, but that costs a lot less than some of my lenses.
These are essentially just snapshots, playing with the new gear. Some shots have notes to tell you what's special about them.
Just in case you're wondering just how big 24 megapixels is, back in 1981 I worked for a small company writing software. If you took all of the disk packs we had for the Dec PDP-11 minicomputers we had there we might have had enough storage in the building to hold one frame from this camera. Maybe. The pictures on this page are little thumbnails I've made and the 'full-size' versions you can get by clicking any of the thumbnails are only 800 pixels on the long side.
